What is gingivitis?
Gingivitis is characterized by inflammation between the teeth and the marginal area. In gingivitis, the inflammatory process extends only to the soft tissues of the tooth. At this time, it is necessary for the patient to undergo proper treatment so that the disease does not turn into a more severe form, such as periodontitis.
What causes gingivitis?
Inadequate oral hygiene, tight teeth, tooth and artificial crown defects, gum trauma, infectious diseases, harmful habits.
How is gingivitis treated?
In many cases, the treatment involves professional oral hygiene (which involves
removing soft and cool plaques on the gums and under the gums) and removing the underlying cause.
What is periodontitis?
Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the tissues around the tooth, the delayed treatment of which may lead to tooth loss.
How does periodontitis develop?
As a result of the accumulation of plaque on the surface of the teeth and in the
areas of the gums, pathogenic bacteria multiply rapidly, as a result of which
gingivitis or inflammation of the gums develops. If the patient does not undergo
proper treatment, the process becomes complicated and periodontitis develops. At this time, deeper destructive processes begin, which, in addition to soft tissues, also damage the bone.
How is periodontitis treated?
There are two methods, this is the conservative method of treatment, which involves removing the plaques on the teeth and under the gums. Also removal of the provoking factor (defects), such as braces and artificial crowns, as well as medical treatment is prescribed according to the indications. The second is surgical treatment.
Prevention of periodontitis
In order to protect ourselves from the development of periodontitis, good (correct) oral hygiene is necessary. The use of interdental brushes and a visit to the dentist every 4-6 months for a professional cleaning of the teeth and control of the oral cavity.
The team at Nunu Matua Dental Clinic can help you maintain healthy gums.
What is gingival recession?
Gingival recession is a process when the gingiva gradually pulls up and no longer covers the root. Accordingly, the tooth appears longer. At this time, the patient has increased sensitivity mainly to cold.
Treatment: depends on the degree of recession. With micro-surgical intervention, it is possible to mobilize gum tissue and cover the root of the tooth.
What is Splinting
Tooth splinting is called uniting of adjacent teeth into one whole block. At this time, loose teeth are joined with less loose or fully healthy teeth so that the chewing force is evenly distributed.
Splinting is mainly done on the front teeth of the upper and lower jaw.
The use of this method allows us to avoid the movement of the teeth and the risk of losing them even under slight pressure.
Splinting uses special metal wire, fiberglass threads or tape.
How long does the splinting process take?
Splinting procedure lasts from 15 to 30 minutes.
